Data Management
Proper data management requires that you know where data, both metadata and content, is owned and viewed. It is important to know the system of record for each object, and whether there are attributes that do not exist in Windchill PDMLink that are required for the business in the target system. When implementing Windchill ESI, it is also important to consider the details around BOM management within the business. The number and location of BOMs must be known, as well as which systems should manage engineering and manufacturing BOMs.
When planning your Windchill ESI installation, determine which system should own data and which should view data.
The business process for creating and maintaining engineering bills of material (EBOMs) and manufacturing bills of material (MBOMs) also impacts user access, data entry, and data publishing for a system. Windchill ESI supports multiple EBOM and MBOM management scenarios.
