Updating Equivalent Links in the Upstream Structure and Resolving Discrepancies
The parts in the upstream view that have outdated equivalent links are identified by the
icon displayed next to them. Use the
Update All Downstream Equivalent Objects action to update the equivalent links for multiple parts in the upstream view and resolve discrepancies. This action is available in the upstream view only.
Perform the following steps:
1. Right-click an upstream part that is linked to an out-of-date downstream part and select Update All Downstream Equivalent Objects. The Latest Non-Linked Equivalent Links From All Contexts dialog box opens. The dialog box displays a list of all the parts that are out of date in different contexts or views.
| • The Carry over from upstream check box is selected by default. • To copy changes related with associations like documents and associations, from the upstream part to the equivalent downstream part, select the Carry over from upstream check box. |
2. Select the parts for which you want to update the equivalence status and click OK.
The equivalent status of the selected part is updated. The out-of-date icon is replaced with the
icon.
3. If there are any discrepancies involved with the selected upstream part, the related discrepancies are highlighted in the upstream and downstream tree structures, and the Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box opens. It displays the discrepancies for the highlighted parts. Review the discrepant parts listed in the table and resolve the discrepancies as needed.
4. Click Resolve and Update to resolve discrepancies.
Key Points
• As a best practice, you should resolve all the discrepancies with status as Auto and Interactive, that appear in the Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box.
• The Update All Downstream Equivalent Objects action updates a part to its most recent iteration even if you choose to not resolve the discrepancies in the Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box.
