Behavior of Configurations During PDM Actions
Depending on whether an operation results in creating a new iteration, SOLIDWORKS configurations are treated by Windchill as either an inseparable object (that is, both the generic SOLIDWORKS CAD document and all instances must be included for the operation) or as a separable object (that is, you can select individual instances rather than the entire family for the operation).
SOLIDWORKS configurations are treated as inseparable family objects for the following actions:
Save or Save to Workspace
Check In
Upload
Check Out
Undo Check Out
Update
Save As
Revise

Although it is possible to revise individual instances, it is best practice to revise all family members.
SOLIDWORKS configurations are treated as separable family objects for the following actions:
Add or Add to Workspace
Remove from Workspace
Rename
Promote
Set State
Edit Properties (both file-based and non-file-based attributes may be edited)
