Configuration Level Effectivity
Windchill Aerospace and Defense configuration management includes the ability to manage effectivity at the configuration level. This allows you to specify the product-level serial numbers for which a design solution is appropriate for a given configuration item.
An effectivity range is stored on the usage link between a configuration item and the associated design solution. This range specifies the product-level serial numbers for which a design solution addresses the configuration item.
Although a design solution can be associated with a configuration item at any time as a candidate design solution, effectivity is assigned to the usage link between a configuration item and a design solution only when a change action is fulfilled by the design solution.  | The traditional Windchill PDMLink effectivity functionality differs from the Windchill Aerospace & Defense configuration management effectivity because its purpose is to select a revision of a part. The standard effectivity functionality can be used with Windchill Aerospace & Defense, but is likely only applicable in the lower level of the product structure.
