Traversing WANs and Firewalls with TIBCO EMS
TIBCO EMS does not have any special means of connecting through a firewall and the TIBCO EMS documentation does not provide specific information on how to use the EMS when the client and server are separated by a firewall or are on different networks.
However, if you need an EMS Server to connect through firewalls, you will need to appropriately configure it. Although we provide you with a general guideline here, we recommend you refer to your firewall documentation for specific instructions.
EMS Direct Connections using TCP/IP or SSL Protocols
TIBCO EMS supports the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocols for network connections. Depending on how your network is configured, you need to configure your firewall to allow the data through this TCP or SSL connection.
If you are using SSL connections, you can use port 443 to make this connection. Port 443 is usually opened for SSL connections and is similar to port 80, which is generally opened for HTTP connections.
If you are not using SSL, you need to configure your firewall to allow the EMS client application to connect to the TCP port defined in the tibemsd.conf file.
Refer to your firewall documentation for specific information.
