The cache is where all client-side information and server-side content files that are related to the Windchill Workgroup Manager are stored. To define the location of cache, set the environment variable PTC_WF_ROOT. If the environment variable is not explicitly defined, the cache is stored at the default location under \PTC\ProENGINEER\wildfire\.wf.

By default, cache is not shared between Windchill Workgroup Manager and Creo Parametric. If you are planning to run the Windchill Workgroup Manager and Creo Parametric on the same system and want the cache to reside in a nondefault location, you must use PTC_WF_ROOT to explicitly set the cache for each application to a different location. For example, one method of achieving this is to create a startup batch file for each application that defines the location of cache using the PTC_WF_ROOT environment variable, before starting the application.

If the location of cache for Creo Parametric and Windchill Workgroup Manager is the same, and you start a second session of Creo Parametric or Windchill Workgroup Manager, while the first session of either is running, an error message appears. In the message, you are prompted to close the second instance of the application, change the location of the cache to another directory, and then restart the application.
