About New Split Assemblies Action in BOM Transformer
Use the New Split Assemblies action to create split assemblies in downstream view from existing assemblies in the upstream view. This action is available in the upstream view of the BOM Transformer.
Use case: You can split a BOM of a product in the upstream, into multiple BOMs in the downstream. To manufacture the BOM present in the upstream, a manufacturing engineer must assemble all downstream equivalent assemblies.
The New Split Assemblies action enables you to efficiently manage multiple BOMs. While using the New Split Assemblies action, you can choose the quantity of child parts or occurrences to be consumed in the downstream view. Refer the video for more details. To view the video in a larger window, click on the video title. This opens the video in YouTube in a new tab.
Key Points
The following considerations apply when using the New/Add > New Split Assemblies action:
The Concept of Set in Split Assemblies
An assembly in the upstream view and its split assemblies in the downstream view are considered a set.
You can also select multiple assemblies in the upstream view to create split assemblies in the downstream view. In this case, the multiple assemblies in the upstream view and the split assemblies in the downstream view are considered as a set.
In a set, a split equivalent link exists between the selected assemblies in the upstream view and its split assemblies in the downstream view.
In a set, an equivalent link exists between the child parts of the assembly in the upstream view and the child parts of the split assemblies in the downstream view.
The assemblies in the downstream view are mutually inclusive of each other.
Resolving Discrepancies in Split Assemblies
Consider that an assembly Axle Assembly is present in the upstream. Use the New Split Assemblies action to create split assemblies Split Assembly 1, Split Assembly 2, and Split Assembly 3 in the downstream, from Axle Assembly. Make changes in the assembly Axle Assembly present in the upstream.
You can incorporate these changes in the split assemblies Split Assembly 1, Split Assembly 2, and Split Assembly 3 by using the Update to Current Equivalent Objects, Detect Discrepancies, orReconciliation Assistance action. The discrepancies have status as Interactive or Auto. For more information refer the video, About Detect and Resolve Discrepancies in BOM Transformer, and About Update to Current Equivalent Objects Dialog Box.
The Importance of Assigning Reference Designator While Using the New Split Assemblies Action
You can use the New Split Assemblies action in usage and occurrence mode. Ideally, you should assign reference designators to all the parts and occurrences of the assemblies that you split using the New Split Assemblies action. This helps you to split occurrences in different assemblies in the downstream side.
Actions Available in the Set Parameters Tab of the New Split Assemblies Dialog Box
The following actions are available in the Set Parameters tab of New Split Assemblies dialog box:
Action Name
Description
Show Occurrences and Hide Occurrences
Select to display each occurrence of a part as a separate object in the Set Parameters tab. If hidden, you can determine the number of occurrences of a part by the Quantity column.
Enable Select in Structure and Disable Select in Structure
When selected, the selected part or occurrence in the Set Parameters tab is highlighted and selected in the upstream tree structure.
