Editing a Smart Collection
You can modify the part selection in a smart collection to add or remove parts. Additionally, you can update the description of a smart collection. Use the Edit Smart Collection action to carry out these modifications.
To edit a smart collection in BOM Transformer, perform the following steps:
1. Open a smart collection in BOM Transformer
2. Click Smart Collection > Disable Smart Collection to view the complete tree structure in upstream and downstream views.
3. Select the parts you want to add to the smart collection from upstream and downstream view.
*
The parts that are highlighted when Highlight Selected Rows and Quick Search actions are used, those parts are added automatically to the tables in the New Smart Collection dialog box.
4. From the middle toolbar, click > Edit Smart Collection. The Edit Smart Collection dialog box opens. The icon is highlighted when you open a smart collection in MASPB.
5. In the Set Attributes step, optionally provide or update the description details, as needed in Description.
*
If you have defined any custom attributes, those are also displayed in the Edit Smart Collection dialog box. Optionally, provide details for the custom attributes.
6. Perform any of the following to proceed:
Click Finish to complete modifying the smart collection. BOM Transformer is refreshed and the updated smart collection is displayed.
To add parts or modify the part selection in the smart collection, click Next.
1. In the Content step, the Upstream Selected Paths and Downstream Selected Paths tables list the current selection of parts in the smart collection. To add parts to the Upstream Selected Paths or Downstream Selected Paths tables, copy parts from upstream and downstream views in BOM Transformer using the > Copy action. The newly added parts are highlighted in the Upstream Selected Paths and Downstream Selected Paths tables.
2. In the Upstream Selected Paths or Downstream Selected Paths tables, click Paste Paths to paste the parts under respective tables.
You can also change the value of Quantity. The value of quantity must be a positive integer and less than excess usage quantity.
At any point in time, you can add or copy only one instance of a part and its associated quantity to the Upstream Selected Paths and Downstream Selected Paths tables. If you try to copy a part that already exists in Upstream Selected Paths and Downstream Selected Paths tables, the action is disregarded. The value of quantity for those parts remains unchanged in the tables.
Consider the following example:
Part A, from upstream view, with quantity 10 is added to the smart collection. In the Upstream Selected Paths table, you changed the quantity to 7. Windchill ignores if you try to paste Part A, and the Quantity value, that is, 7 is retained. Remove the part from the Upstream Selected Paths table, and paste it again if you want the quantity to be 10.
Use Remove Paths, available in the Upstream Selected Paths and Downstream Selected Paths tables to remove parts. In addition to the existing default columns, you can also add Line Number and Status Change columns to Upstream Selected Paths and Downstream Selected Paths tables. The two columns are read-only.
3. Click Finish.
The following points apply when using the Edit Smart Collection action:
The Edit Smart Collection action is available only if you open a smart collection in BOM Transformer. It is not available when you open a part structure in BOM Transformer.
You can add only parts in the Upstream Selected Paths and Downstream Selected Paths tables of Edit Smart Collection dialog box.
The smart collection stores root part information and individual path information for parts in upstream and downstream views.
Windchill stores the configuration settings that were applied when editing a smart collection. For example, plant filter, attribute filter, set options and choices applied when creating a smart collection. When you open the smart collection in MASPB, all these settings are retained.
The parts which do not satisfy the filter criteria that were applied during the editing of the smart collection, are ignored and removed from the Contents tab.
When the quantity of a part in smart collection is modified or updated in the Content page, and that part is filtered out in Upstream Selected Paths and Downstream Selected Paths tables, the updated value of quantity is disregarded in the smart collection.
