Understanding the Integration Architecture
Windchill Workgroup Manager for CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE uses client-server integration architecture as illustrated in the following figure. Once installed on your client workstation and your CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE authoring application registered with Windchill Workgroup Manager, you are ready to begin managing your CATIA design assets using Windchill.
Client-side Components
The following components reside on your client workstation:
Windchill Workgroup Manager Client – provides a common data link between your CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE authoring application and the Windchill server.
Workspace Local Directory – your private local workspace, commonly referred to as the WLD. Design assets that you store here cannot be seen or accessed by anyone except you.
Server-side Components
The following components reside on the Windchill server:
Windchill PLM (product lifecycle management) database
– the primary enterprise data storage and product lifecycle management system for your CATIA design assets.
PLM-managed Workspace – your personal workspace on the Windchill server.
Commonspace – a Windchill term used to describe the data storage area on the Windchill server that the general enterprise population can access with appropriate permissions.
