Windchill Business Reporting
If you are installing Windchill Business Reporting (WBR) along with your Windchill solution, you must decide whether the WBR components, the host and the gateway server, will be installed on the same machine as your Windchill solution, or installed in a distributed configuration on multiple machines.
*
If you choose one of the distributed scenarios, the PTC Solution Installer (PSI) must be run on each machine in the proper sequence to avoid manual post-installation configuration steps.
If you are updating an existing installation to include Windchill Business Reporting, you must first uninstall any previous installations of Cognos, and reboot your machine, for the installation to run successfully. However, this step is required only if Cognos version is changed.
PTC strongly recommends the use of defense-in-depth in the deployment of the Windchill Business Reporting Administration web application by making this application available only within the internal corporate network and never exposed to the internet. PTC also recommends that the WBR Host and WBR Gateway Server be hosted on a separate server within the corporate network and not on the same server hosting the Windchill application. PTC recommends not to expose the Windchill Business Reporting Administration console or the WBR Host and WBR Gateway Server to the internet.
The following Windchill Business Reporting installation scenarios are supported:
Local Installation—The host, gateway server, and your Windchill solution are all installed on one machine.
Distributed Installations—
Two machines—The host is installed on one machine, and the gateway server and your Windchill solution are installed on a second machine.
Three machines—The host is installed on one machine, the gateway server is installed on a second machine, and your Windchill solution is installed on a third machine. The PSI is run first to install the host, then to install the gateway server, and lastly to install your Windchill solution.
Windchill Business Reporting is also supported in a cluster environment. For more information, see Advanced Deployment Considerations.
Local Installation
If the WBR host and gateway server are both installed on the same machine as your Windchill solution, as in the following graphic, then the PTC Solution Installer is run only once, and automatically installs the components in the proper sequence.
Distributed Installations
Two Machines
If the WBR host is installed on a separate machine from the WBR gateway server and your Windchill solution, as in the following graphic, then the PSI must be run twice: first to install the host on its machine, and second to install the gateway server and the Windchill solution.
Three Machines
If the WBR host, gateway server, and your Windchill solution are all installed on separate machines, as in the following graphic, then the PSI must be run three times: first to install the host, then to install the gateway server, and lastly to install your Windchill solution.
Other Pre-Installation Considerations
Other considerations before you begin your installation:
The default directory server must already be installed and configured before you begin installing any Windchill Business Reporting components.
If you are installing Windchill Business Reporting on Red Hat Linux 6.X/7.X, you must have the system library files installed before installing Windchill Business Reporting.
Attempting to install Windchill Business Reporting with your antivirus software and firewalls enabled may significantly increase the amount of time it takes to complete the installation. Temporarily disabling your antivirus software and firewalls will increase installation performance times.
