Adding Occurrences
From the Occurrences tab
Use the following steps to define occurrences for a child part within an assembly from the Occurrences tab:
1. Navigate to the Structure tab for the assembly and highlight the assembly part.
2. Click on the Occurrences tab to show the occurrences for parts within the assembly. The last row in the table contains data entry fields for creating a new occurrence.
3. Click in the number field and start to type in the part number. As you type you will see a drop-down list of part numbers that match the characters entered into the number field. When you see the part number for which the occurrence is to be created you can select it from the list.
4. Type ENTER to save the new occurrence. You can add a reference designator label once the occurrence is created.
5. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each new occurrence to be added.
*
Defining a number of occurrences greater than the quantity of the part used in the assembly will cause the quantity to be increased.
From the Uses tab
Use the following steps to define occurrences from the Uses tab.
1. Navigate to the Structure tab for the assembly and highlight the assembly part.
2. Click on the Uses tab to show all the child parts used by the assembly.
3. Locate the child part for which the occurrences are to be created and double click in the Reference Designator field.
4. Type in a series or a range of reference designators to create an equal number of occurrences. For example, type in C1, C2, C3 or C1–C3 to create three occurrences of the selected part.
*
A series of references designators or reference designator ranges can be entered together. For example, C1–C3,C6,C8–C10 defines the occurrences C1, C2, C3, C6, C8, C9, and C10. The quantity of the part used in the parent assembly will be automatically increased to equal the number of reference designators that are entered.
*
The separator and range characters are controlled by preferences in the Part Management > Reference Designators section of the Preference Management utility. Contact your Windchill system administrator to modify these preferences.
5. Click on the Occurrences tab to see individual occurrences for the selected part.
