Setting Multi-fidelity Preferences
Preferred Fidelity User Preference
The System Administrator optionally sets the default Preferred Fidelity and Preferred Fidelity for Visualization Tab preferences for all users in an organization or for the whole site. When a Windchill user opens a Multi-fidelity representation in Creo View or from the Visualization tab, the fidelity preferences set for the user determines which fidelity subtype contains the OL files to be loaded. If not locked by the Administrator, a user can change the preference settings. For an Administrator to set the Preferred Fidelity, follow this procedure:
1. From Site or Organizations, navigate to Utilities > Preference Management, and select Visualization.
2. Under Multi-fidelity, select Preferred Fidelity or Preferred Fidelity for Visualization Tab. The Set Preference pane opens.
3. Select a fidelity from the Value list (the fidelity names appear in the alphabetical order of your locale).
4. Select Locked to prevent the user from changing this setting.
5. Click OK.

Fidelity Fallback Order Administrative Preference
The Fidelity Fallback Order preference is an optional administrative preference that provides a mechanism to define a list of alternative fidelity subtypes. This is functional when a user’s Preferred Fidelity subtype does not exist or is inaccessible. To set the Fidelity Fallback Order, follow this procedure:
1. From Site > Utilities > Preference Management select Visualization.
2. Under Multi-fidelity, select Fidelity Fallback Order. The Set Preference pane opens.
3. For each fidelity subtype, type an ordered list of fidelity subtypes to revert to. Separate the values with a comma. The fallback order is from left to right.
4. Select Locked to prevent changes being made to this setting.

If no fallback order is set for a fidelity subtype, only the user’s Preferred Fidelity subtype is used for content retrieval.
Example: Multi-fidelity Preference Usage
The following example illustrates two Multi-fidelity representations that have a different number of fidelity subtypes.

If a user’s Preferred Fidelity preference is set to Medium Fidelity, when opening the Bicycle Multi-fidelity representation into the Creo View client, the viewable content is loaded from the Medium Fidelity fidelity subtype, since that fidelity instance exists. However, if the user opens the Engine Multi-fidelity representation into the Creo View client, no viewable content is loaded because a Medium Fidelity fidelity subtype doesn’t exist or because the user does not have access to the subtype. To allow content to be retrieved from a different subtype in this case, defining a Fidelity Fallback Order for the Medium Fidelity subtype is required. If a defined Fallback Order includes the Medium Fidelity subtype with a fallback of com.ptc.FidelityLOW, when the user opens the Engine Multi-fidelity representation into the Creo View client, the viewable content is loaded from the Low Fidelity fidelity instance.
