After installation, Windchill works for 6 hours without a license file. A Windchill license file connects with PTC backend server once every 24 hours. PTC enforces license compliance and verifies license validity through this connection. When a license file expires, Windchill provides a grace period of six hours. After six hours, Windchill shuts down. If Windchill is deployed in a cluster environment, then an expired license term shuts down Windchill in all the nodes.

An administrator receives a notification when a license expires and before Windchill shuts down.

An offline Windchill system which has a valid license subscription and is unable to connect with PTC backend server continues to function normally.
