Beginning at Windchill 10.2, the WindchillNew CAD Document option is available from the CAD authoring application. This New CAD Document option offers the same functionality as the one in Windchill.

Previously, creation of a CAD document with Windchill Workgroup Manager was only available within the embedded browser workspace. This required you to leave the CAD application and go to the Windchill Workgroup Manager embedded browser to perform this action.

The native CAD tool File > New command does not provide support for Windchill PDMLink's auto-numbering capability, nor does it allow for the ability to fill in Windchill attribute information. In some cases, attributes can be used to drive auto-numbering using Object Initialization Rules (OIRs); in addition, some attributes are "required" or have other Windchill constraints which require Windchill access.

The New CAD Document option in the CAD tool allows you to create new CAD documents, in the same way you would create them in Windchill, without leaving the CAD environment.

At Windchill 10.2, PTC provides out-of-the-box "New CAD Document" templates for all Windchill Workgroup Manager solutions. This provides you with the ability to create new Windchill PDMLink CAD Documents without having to configure templates first. You can create your own templates, or modify the out-of-the-box templates, so you can get up and running quickly.
