Overview of File Types
Creo View can display many file types. It is important that you are familiar with the following types:
File Type
Description
JPG
OL
A binary file, which is created by publishing a CAD part. It contains the 3D and 2D CAD information. A single CAD part may create many OL files.
PLT
Contains 2D-vector information, and is created when drawing output is requested during publication of a CAD part. A CAD part can product many PLT files.
PVA
PVM
A file map that relates file names to Windchill object IDs.
PVP
An optional file for properties. They can be stored separately and downloaded on request.
PVS
A binary file that contains product structure information for Creo View. It is a representation of the product structure, which may be a single part or an EPMDocument. It contains name, linkage (uses and orientations) , properties, and references to the actual content, which is stored in a separate file.
PVT
A Creo View 3D thumbnail file that contains a lightweight representation of the 3D assembly.
PVZ
A ZIP file containing PVS, OL, and other Creo View files. The PVZ acts as a snapshot of a product structure. Since it is a single file, it provides a faster way to access a large amount of information, as only one download is required to view a complete product. The PVZ also provides a single file that can be easily distributed (for example, through email).
