CN Name (Change Master Description) Over 40 Characters
There is a difference in the allowed database character length for the CN name attribute in Windchill and the attribute change master description in SAP to which it is mapped. The Windchill CN name field limit is 256 characters, whereas the SAP change master description field limit is 40 characters. If CNs from Windchill have CN names that are greater than 40 characters, an error appears and middleware processing ends.
To prevent this from happening, you can do one of the following:
• Ask your administrator to add validation to the Windchill GUI to prevent a CN name that is over 40 characters. For more information on how to limit attribute lengths in Windchill PDMLink, refer to the section Customizing Column Lengths in the Windchill Customizer’s Guide.
• Ask your administrator to modify SAP to allow change masters to be created with a change number description of up to 256 characters.
• Modify the EAI software components to truncate CN names to meet the required SAP field length.
