CN Description (Reason For Change) Over 40 Characters
There is a difference in the allowed database character length for the CN Description attribute in Windchill and the Reason for Change attribute in SAP to which it is mapped. The Windchill CN Description field limit is 2000 characters, whereas the SAP Reason for Change field limit is 40 characters. If CNs from Windchill have CN descriptions that are greater than 40 characters, an error appears and middleware processing ends.
To prevent this from happening, you can do one of the following:
• Ask your administrator to add validation to the Windchill GUI to prevent a CN description that is over 40 characters. For more information on how to limit attribute lengths in Windchill PDMLink, refer to the section Customizing Column Lengths in the Windchill Customizer’s Guide.
• Ask your administrator to modify SAP to allow change masters to be created with reason for change up to 2000 characters.
• Modify the EAI software components to truncate CN descriptions to meet the required SAP field length.
