Summary Activity Calculation Example
The scheduling values for a summary activity are calculated based on the information provided for its sub-activities (the “child” activities).Summary activity progress is tracked through each child activity. A summary activity is finished when all child activities have been marked complete.
For example, consider a summary activity that has four child activities:

The duration is the number of working days between the start and finish dates. This example uses a work week that extends Monday through Friday, with 40 hours of work per week.
As a result, the summary activity has the following values:

• Duration
The duration is calculated based on the number of working days between the earliest start date (01-06-2017) and the latest finish date (02-05-2017) from among the child activities.
• Work
The work is calculated based on the sum number of hours for all child activities.
• % Work Complete
Progress is weighted based on how much work each activity represents:


(Child Activity Work ÷ Total Work) * 100 = Percent of work that the child activity represents

For example, Activity 4 represents 10 hours out of 170 hours of work:


(10 ÷ 170) * 100 = 5.8

Therefore, when Activity 4 is completed, 6% (rounded to the next whole number) is added to the percentage of work complete for the summary activity.
