Enhanced Project Plans Constraints
There are some constraints in how Windchill handles EPP relationships. It is essential to understand the constraints to help you create and manage a plan. Constraints related to EPP are as follows:
• Creation and Increase Indent
◦ New and estimated activities are constrained to have the estimated start date same as or later than the actual start of their nearest parent
◦ Activities with an earlier actual start date cannot be indented into activities with a later actual start date
◦ Indenting or inserting an activity or a sub plan as a child with estimated start date prior to its parent is restricted in an executing plan or summary activity
◦ Indenting or inserting activity or sub plan as a child is restricted in an executing plan activity
• Deletion and Decrease Indent
◦ Deleting the last remaining activity of an executing summary activity or plan is not supported
◦ You cannot decrease indent of the last remaining activity of an executing summary activity or plan
◦ You cannot decrease indent of an executing plan activity of a summary activity to convert the plan activity to a summary activity
• Copy
◦ Activities with an earlier estimated start date cannot be copied in summary activities with a later actual start date
|
The tracking information of an activity is lost when an activity is copied to a summary activity.
|
• Cut
◦ Activities with an earlier estimated start date cannot be moved to in summary activities with a later actual start date.
|
The tracking information of an activity is retained when it is moved within the same plan.
|
◦ In a manual plan, processes involving delete or cut actions can cause a mismatch between estimated start date and actual start date of the parent activities.
◦ The last remaining activity of an executing summary activity or plan cannot be moved to a summary activity using this action.
• Microsoft Project (MSP) Import
◦ The import of an MSP plan using sync mode is restricted if the actual start date of an activity or a plan is modified in MSP. The import can fail due to the following reasons:
▪ Deleting an existing activity in MSP
▪ Creating an activity in MSP
▪ Modifying an existing activity
◦ The import of a summary activity with a new or edited activity is restricted if the estimated start date of the activity is earlier than the actual start date of the summary activity.
◦ The import of a summary activity is restricted if an executing summary activity is converted to a plan activity in MSP and imported back to Windchill.
◦ The import of a plan activity is restricted if an executing plan activity is converted to a summary activity in MSP and imported back to Windchill.
