Renaming a User
By renaming a user, you replace the current name in the Windchill database, in the directory entry for the user, and in the groups and organizations of which the user is a member.
*
To change the name in the user's directory entry, you must have write permission to the directory server containing the user entry.
To rename a user, use the following procedure:
1. From the right-click actions menu of the user to be renamed, select the Edit User action. You may need to add the user to the Participant Administration table.
The Edit User window opens.
2. Edit the existing value in the Name field.
3. You can also edit other fields on the Set Attributes, and Assign to Groups, and Assign to Profiles steps as described in Editing a User.
4. After making the desired changes, click Finish.
All of the desired changes, including the name change are made. Changing the user name changes the distinguished name used for the user that is stored in the Windchill database as well as in the directory service.
If you do not have write permission to the directory server, use the following procedure to rename a user:
1. Change the username in the user’s LDAP entry.
2. Update the user in the Participant Administration utility to point to the new LDAP username.
*
If the user attempts to log in with the new username before the LDAP entry and Windchill synchronize, a new account is created and is not associated with the user’s old name. To fix this, disable the new account and connect the new username with the old account using the following steps:
1. Search for the user with the user’s old name using the Search Disconnected Participants action in the Participant Administration window. For more information, see Search disconnected participants.
2. After adding the old user to the Participant Administration table, select the Reconnect Disconnected Participant action from the right-click action menu for the user object.
3. Search for the user with the user’s new name in the Reconnect Disconnected Participant window and click OK. For more information, see Reconnect disconnected participants.
The old user account will be connected with the new LDAP entry automatically.
