Collection Options
Collection options are a set of choices applied to a set of initially selected objects for a package, technical data package, CDRL package, or SDRL package. The set of collection options has three parts: collection rules, configuration specification, and collection filters. Each aspect works together when applied to the initially selected objects to define the final set of content objects.
Collection Rules
Collection rules define which relationships should be used to gather objects related to each of the objects in the Initially Selected Objects table. These collection rules are categorized into the following groupings:
Dependency
Related Business Objects
Related Change Objects
Related Requirements
Related AML/AVL
Dependency manages which structure relationship is used and how much of the structure should be included. Dependency varies based on the centricity of the collection (CAD document, part, document, or none). When initially selected objects are added to the table, the centricity is determined. Based on what object types are included in the initially selected objects, a default centricity is applied. When more than one type of object is included in the initially selected objects, the default order to apply centricity is CAD document, part, and then document. The centricity defines the structure type that is used for dependency collection.
CAD Document Centricity - Applied if at least one CAD document is included as an initially selected object.
Part Structure Centricity - Applied if at least one part is included as an initially selected object, but there are no CAD documents included.
Document Structure Centricity - Applied if there are only documents included as initially selected objects with no CAD documents or parts included.
*
The default centricity can be changed using the Dependency Processing Type drop-down list if the package contains at least one object of the appropriate type. The drop-down list is only available if your site administrator has set the site-level Display > Configuration Specification > Enable Dependency Processing Type preference to Yes.
Dependency relationships are the only ones where configuration specifications are applied.
For each initially selected object or dependent object collected, the related objects are collected based upon the collection rules. These objects in turn may be used to collect other related business or change objects, but they will not be used to collect objects based on the dependency collection rule. For more information, see About the Collector.
Configuration Specification
The configuration specification is exclusively used in the dependency navigation and determines the single version of an object to include in the package. You also can control the ability to apply the configuration specification to initially selected objects as well as to use the latest version in the event that no versions meet the conditions established by the configuration specification. For more information, see About Configuration Specifications.
*
Applying a configuration specification to the top-level object also applies the same configuration specification to all initially selected objects. If multiple versions of the same object are added as initially selected objects and the Apply to initially selected objects option is not selected, the collection options are applied to each initially selected version. If the Apply to initially selected objects option is selected, then the collection options are applied only to the initially selected version identified by the configuration specification.
*
Be sure to select the Apply to initially selected objects and the Apply latest for unresolved dependents checkboxes on the Configuration Specification filter tab.
Collection Filters
Filtering can be applied as an integral part of the collection process. Filters are applied to all collected objects except the initially selected objects. Use filters to exclude objects from the collection set. Any object filtered is excluded from further processing. The following set of filters are available for packages:
Filters
Description
Context Filter
Limits the collected objects based on the context in which they reside. By default, objects from all contexts are included. There are three options for managing contexts:
Include all: Include all available contexts.
Include only selected: Click the Find button to open the Find Context window. From this window, search for and select only the contexts that you want to include in your collection. Click OK, and the contexts you selected appear in the table. Only these contexts are included in your contents.
Exclude only selected: Click the Find button to open the Find Context window. From this window, search for and select only the contexts that you want to exclude from your collection. Click OK, and the contexts you selected appear in the table. Only these contexts are excluded from your contents.
Type Filter
Limits the collected objects based on object type. There are three options for managing object types:
Include all: Include all available object types.
Include only selected: Click the Find button to open the Find Type window. From this window, select only the object types that you want to include in your collection. Click OK, and the object types you selected appear in the table. Only these object types are then included in your contents.
Exclude only selected: Click the Find button to open the Find Type window. From this window, select only the object types that you want to exclude from your collection. Click OK, and the object types you selected appear in the table. Only these object types are then excluded from your contents.
Organization ID Filter
*
The display of owning organization and its format depends on your system configuration. When the owning organization is not configured to display, this filter does not appear.
Limits the collected objects based on the organization that owns the object. There are three options for managing organization identifiers:
Include all: Include all available organization identifiers.
Include only selected: Click the Find button to search for organization identifiers to include in your collection. Only objects owned by the selected organizations are included in your contents.
Exclude only selected: Click the Find button to search for organization identifiers to exclude from your contents.
Security Label Filter
*
Depending on the configuration of your site, security labels may not display. When they are not displayed, this filter does not appear.
Limits the collected objects based on the security label values applied to each object. Select Include all to include all objects regardless of any applied security label. Select Include only selected to specify the security label values to include in the collection. For custom security labels, you can select All values to include objects with any value of the custom security label applied, or you can select No value to remove any objects with any value of that custom security label applied.
Black Box Filter
Limits the collected objects based on their relationship to an object in the part structure. For example, if Part A has two child parts, Part B and Part C, and Part A is set as the black box part, only Part A is collected and not its subparts. Package recipients do not receive information about Part B and Part C. If collection rules are defined so related objects should be included, all objects related to Part A, such as related documents or change objects, are included. Use the Find button to search for parts to add as black box parts.
*
This filter is only available if you are using a part structure configuration specification. Use the Configuration Specification tab in the Edit Filter window to specify the Dependency Processing Type as Part Structure. For more information, see About Configuration Specifications.
*
You can use the Remove button at any time during this process to remove contexts, object types, organization identifiers, or black box filters you added.
Specifying Options
Use the following process to access the collection rules:
*
Depending on the configuration of your site, the edit filter icon is also available from the Package Content table. Selecting filters from the table rather than from the Add to Package window does not refresh the collection. For more information, see Editing Package Filters.
1. Click the Configure link located above the Initially Selected Objects table. The Set Collection Rules window opens.
*
There must be at least one part, document, or CAD document object in the table for you to configure collection options.
2. Select any dependencies, related business objects, or related change objects in the available sections. For more information, see Collecting in Basic Mode.
3. Click the edit filter icon .
The Collection Options window opens.
a. Select a configuration specification from the Configuration Specification tab.
b. Select the appropriate filters. See the table above for a description of each filter.
c. Click OK to save your changes and close the window.
4. Click OK to accept your collection option changes and close the window.
For more information about defining collections, see Best Practices for Collecting Objects into a Package.
