Setting Up a Versioning Scheme
Setting up a versioning scheme involves the following steps:
1. Decide which type of scheme to use. The available types are described in Types of Versioning Schemes.
2. For alphabetic and integer schemes, set the appropriate properties in the wt.properties file.
3. For file-based and state-based versioning, create and load the versioning XML file that contains versioning values. A default state-based versioning XML file is loaded. For details on creating and loading a versioning XML file, see Creating and Loading a Versioning XML File.
4. Determine where the new scheme will be used and the object types for which the scheme is to be used.
For example, you can set up a new versioning scheme for parts, documents, or CAD documents in a specific product context or set a new versioning scheme for parts, documents, and CAD documents created within a specific organization context or within the entire site context. The recommended approach is to create one versioning scheme for your entire site.
5. Enter the object initialization rules that establish the new versioning scheme in the contexts determined in step 4. The format to use is described in the Versioning Scheme Rule Content section. For an example, see Versioning Scheme Example.
