Assigning a Plant to a Part
You can assign a plant to one or more parts in the BOM Transformer and the Product Structure Browser (PSB). Use the Assign Plant action available in the upstream and downstream views of the browser pages. The visibility of the action is controlled by the site-level preference Views with Specific Extended Data. The Assign Plant action is available only if you specify a valid value for this preference in the following format:
ViewName1:Type1 Enterprise Data, ViewName2:Type2 where ViewName is the name of the view, Type Enterprise Data is the internal name of the extended data.
You can assign multiple values using a comma separator. For example, Design:com.ptc.windchill.enterprise.data.enterpriseData.PlantSpecificEnterpriseData,Manufacturing:com.ptc.windchill.enterprise.data.enterpriseData.PlantSpecificEnterpriseData
The Assign Plant action is accessible only to users with the following profiles:
PTC MPMLink Module License
PTC Manufacturing License
PTC BOM Transformation License
Consider the following points about the Assign Plant action:
An error occurs if you try to assign a plant to any object other than a part.
You cannot assign plant to multiple objects of different types.
You need to enter appropriate values in the value field of List of Applicable Views and Views with Specific Extended Data preference.
You cannot assign a plant to a part to which a plant is already assigned.
User can assign only one plant for a particular view.
To Assign a Plant to a Part
You can perform this action from any of the following locations:
BOM Transformer, PSB, Folder Browser page, search results page, and New Change Task window.
The following procedure applies for the Assign Plant action invoked from any of these locations.
1. Depending on the location from where you will use the action, perform the following:
In BOM Transformer, select one or more parts. Right-click and select Assign Plant.
The Assign Plant window opens. Alternatively, click New/Add > Assign Plant.
In PSB, select one or more parts. Right-click and select New > Assign Plant. The Assign Plant window opens. Alternatively, under the New/Add To section, click New > Assign Plant to assign a plant.
In the folder browser page, select the parts that you want to assign a plant to. In the Actions list, select New > Assign Plant. The Assign Plant window opens.
In the folder browser page, enter a part number in Search in table and click . In the search results page, select the parts that you want to assign a plant to. In the Actions list, select New > Assign Plant. The Assign Plant window opens.
From the New Change Task wizard when creating a change notice. On the Select Affected/Resulting Objects tab, from the Actions menu for the Affected Objects or Resulting Objects table, select Assign Plant. The Assign Plant window opens.
2. In the View list, select a view.
3. In the Type list, select a plant and click Next.
4. Optionally, enter plant details such as location, description, and storage location.
5. Click Finish.
In BOM Transformer and PSB, the plant is assigned to the specified parts. The tree structure is updated and displays the associated plant under the parts. The updated information about the assigned plant is available in the Plants tab.
On the folder browser page, a confirmation message is displayed indicating that the plant is assigned to the specified parts.
