Using the Illustration Editor
The Illustration Editor can be used to display all representations of an object in the Process Plan Browser. Once opened, the Illustration Editor displays all parts allocated to the selected operation as well as the resources used in that operation. Parts that are consumed during the operation are highlighted, while parts that have already been consumed in previous operations are grayed out. Representations for the operations and resources can then be viewed, edited, and saved.
To open the Illustration Editor:
1. Select an operation in the Process Plan Browser.
2. Open the context menu of an operation and select Work Instructions > Edit Representations.
Illustration Editor Use Case
The following is a demonstration of how the Illustration Editor can be used to improve the manufacturing process.
In this scenario a Manufacturing Engineer wants to document an operation where a set of cable terminations have to be crimped at a pneumatic press. The operation is complex because one end of the cables has to be arranged on the crimping jig, and the other end secured in a specific location, such as to minimize the risk of them snagging on the press's moving parts and potentially injuring the operator. Thus, two illustrations including the whole workstation are required: one for placing the cables, and one for doing the job. Before designing this operation you would:
• Define the layout of your plant using existing CAD systems.
• Using the Process Plan Browser assign parts and resources to the operation where cable terminations are to be crimped at a pneumatic press.
To use the Illustration Editor to improve the manufacturing process:
1. In the Process Plan Browser open the crimping operation in the Illustration Editor. Manually create one representation for each operation that you are planning to illustrate, and make sure it is set as the default representation. Then, in the PPB tree, select all operations and generate Work Instructions. The allocated parts for the operation are highlighted.
2. Using the Creo View tools available in the Illustration Editor reposition the parts, in this case the cables, against the workstation crimping jig. You can also hide or change the display of the various parts as needed.
3. Save an annotation to represent the initial setup, with the relevant callouts and markups. This annotation is saved as an additional representation of the operation.
4. Reposition the parts to represent the position of the parts at the other end of the cables.
5. Create and save this second annotation. This is also saved as a second representation of the operation.
All representations for the operation are displayed in both Work Instructions and the annotation editor.

Clicking Update Geometry allows you to update the Creo View representations of objects or their structure if they have been updated elsewhere. Any markups that have been made remain in the representation.

If the Update Geometry action fails check the MPMLink Publish Queue in the Queue Manager. Once the action has been processed in the Queue Manager, re-load the illustration editor.
