Working with Migrated Software Parts

Windchill Integrations for Embedded Software provides an integrated environment to manage migrated software parts from Windchill 9.x, or 10.1x to Windchill 10.2.

A typical use scenario is migrating Windchill 9.x software parts with IBM Rational ClearCase attachment content to Windchill 10.2 that includes Windchill Integrations for Embedded Software with IBM Rational ClearCase.

• Software parts in Windchill 10.1x or 10.2 cannot have IBM Rational ClearCase attachments. Instead, a related software document contains the IBM Rational ClearCase attachment content.

• Software parts in Windchill 10.1x or 10.2 can have related objects. A related object can be a software document.

In the conversion process, a software part without attachments converts to an updated software part. The updated software part includes all of the originating software part information from the Windchill 9.x system.

In the conversion process, a software part with attachment content becomes two Windchill objects: (1) a software part and (2) a related software document. Software parts in Windchill 10.2 do not have attachments.

The software part information includes all of the originating software part information from the Windchill 9.x system, except for the attachment information.

The attachment information is converted to a related software document of which the name and other information is generated from the software part. The software document number is auto-generated; however, the name of the software part and the related software document are the same. Randomly, one of the attachments, when there are two or more attachments, convert to the primary source content in the related software document. The remaining attachments appear as attachments in the related software document.

For example, IBM Rational ClearCase attachment content from the migrated software part converts to a related software document. Randomly, one of the attachments, when there were two or more attachments, convert to the IBM Rational ClearCase primary source content. The remaining attachments appear as attachments in the related software document.

A migrated software part can be accessed and managed from Products

> Folders, Projects

> Folders, or Libraries

> Folders in Windchill.

Once you have located the software part in the Folders table, click the software part information page to access the Details, Structure, Related Objects, Changes, History, Where Used, and Traceability tabs.

For migrated parts with IBM Rational ClearCase attachment content, click the document information page Related Objects tab to access the related software document in the References Documents table.
