The Windchill Extensions Program offers free and for-subscription productivity tools for Windchill expert users.

PTC introduces the Windchill Extensions program. The extensions are add-ons to Windchill that are technically isolated from the Windchill server to mitigate risk. Administrators can install and uninstall the extensions on the fly without restarting Windchill. The extensions provide plug-and-play value with forward compatibility.

This program adds no code to your Windchill instance during the core Windchill upgrade. When your administrator runs the Windchill Extension installer, a microkernel is added along with a service into the Windchill system which gives a tightly controlled dynamic access to install and uninstall extensions into the system. The microkernal uses only digitally signed software packages, ensuring all applications installed are verified and secure. The extensions themselves are installed outside of the Windchill service, and they are encapsulated to avoid regression and dependency risks with core Windchill.

PTC plans to add new extensions frequently, starting with 3 and then growing the number by the end of 2020. Some extensions are broadly applicable and free. Others are built for a specific workflow and are subscribed to for a fee. All for-fee extensions offer on-demand trial access, so you can try before you buy without cost.
