Windchill ProjectLink: Restricted Use of Classic Plans
Product: Windchill ProjectLink, Windchill
Release: 11.2.1.0
Benefit
The use of Classic plans in Windchill has been deprecated for several releases now. Final steps are being taken to prepare for the complete removal of Classic Plans in the next major Windchill release. Customers using Classic plans are recommended to use Enhanced Project Plan (EPP) as a replacement.
Additional Details
If you are still using classic plans or have classic plans in your database, you are requested to execute the Prepare Report for Classic Plans task in Windchill Diagnostic Utility and file the results through a PTC customer call. This will help determine the proper course of action necessary to completely eliminate the classic plans.
The following features are disabled:
Creating a classic project or classic program
Executing a scheduled classic plan: Classic plans that are currently executing will be permitted to continue to completion. To start the execution of a scheduled classic plan, or create a new sub project or program for an executing classic plan, register a case with PTC for special support.
Saving a classic project or classic program using Save As action: To save a classic project or program using Save As New Project action, register a case with PTC for special support. You can no longer save a deleted classic or an EPP project in the deleted projects list using the Save As New Project action.
To facilitate the elimination of classic plans, following features are provided:
The classic plan conversion tool has been improved to provide a more accurate conversion to an EPP plan.
An administrator can convert completed or cancelled classic plans in bulk using the ClassicToEppBulkConversion utility. By default, 100 classic plans can be converted at a time. The default number can be configured using the noOfClassicProjecsToBeConverted property. Activity related information is retained when a classic plan is converted to an EPP.
Administrators can delete individual classic plans that are redundant or not in use.
Existing Project or Program contexts that no longer contain a classic plan can continue to be used with EPP plans. In this release of Windchill, contexts that support EPP plans can have multiple plans and plans that reference subplans.
To use the blocked features in an unavoidable business situation, register a case with PTC for support or contact the site administrator.
