Using Configuration Specification Filters

As its name implies, a configuration specification filters a part structure to show a documented product configuration. Part versions are selected using criteria such as the latest part version of a specified state, membership in a baseline, or a specified effectivity date. A part structure that is expanded using the configuration specification filter may be a product configuration that was produced in the past, the configuration that is currently in production, or a configuration under development for a future product release. A product structure that has been filtered by a configuration specification is essentially the bill of material for that configuration.

Unlike other specialized filters, a configuration specification filter must display a part icon for every node in the part structure. When a version that matches the configuration specification exists, the part

icon is displayed. When there is no part version that matches the configuration specification filter criteria, the part structure displays the part master icon

to indicate that the configuration is incomplete.
