Creating a Software Build
You can create a software build using the New Document action that opens the New Document window.
See Adding a New Document for information on how to access the New Document action.
The New Document window divides the creation of a software build into two steps. The attribute names and the order in which they appear are customized by an administrator.
Step 1—Set Attributes
In the first section of the Set Attributes step, identify the content to be attached to the software build using the following fields:
Field Name
Description
Type
Select Software Build from the Type drop-down list.
Template
Displays a list of templates that provide a standard format for creating the software build. A template is available to you if it has created by an administrator.
Primary Content Source
Displays a list of options to attach primary content to the software build. Primary content can either be a single file or a single ZIP file with multiple files. If primary content is not required or you want to add it later, you can select No Content. For all other primary content options, additional attribute fields appear based on the option you select.
Local File Path
If you selected Local File from the Primary Content Source drop-down menu, specify the path to the local file containing the primary content. Use one of the following methods to do so:
Type the file path in the Local File Path field.
Click Browse next to the Local File Path field, select a file, and click Open.
File Name
If you selected Local File from the Primary Content Source drop-down menu, the name of the selected file is displayed.
URL
If you selected URL from the Primary Content Source drop-down menu, enter the path to information on a Web site.
URL Label
If you selected URL from the Primary Content Source drop-down menu, enter the display name for the URL.
External Storage Location
If you selected External Storage from the Primary Content Source drop-down menu, enter a description of the external location where the primary content is stored.
External Storage Label
If you selected External Storage from the Primary Content Source drop-down menu, enter a display name for the externally stored content.
In the Attributes section of the Set Attributes step, specify attributes for the software build using the following fields:
Field Name
Description
Number
A numerical value for the software build. You cannot edit this field.
Name
Enter a name from 1–150 characters for the software build. Otherwise, a name is automatically populated based on the file name that you selected as the primary content. You can edit the name if required.
Description
Enter a text description of 4000 or fewer characters for the software build.
Location
Select one of the following items:
Autoselect Folder—Uses a folder location predetermined by the object initialization rules for the context.
Select Folder—Select the folder location of the software build from a drop-down list. The list contains the name of the folder and subfolders in which the New Document action was launched.
Life Cycle Template
If this field appears, select the lifecycle template from the drop-down menu to use for the software build.
Team Template
If this field appears, select the lifecycle team template from the drop-down menu to use for the software build.
In the Build Attributes section of the Set Attributes step, specify the attributes to identify the software build:
Field Name
Description
Adapter Name
The name of adapter.
Build Label
The software configuration label used to build or compile the software from the source code into the deliverable or the binary.
For Subversion adapters, the build label is used to generate reports by comparing one build label/revision to another.
For IBM Rational ClearCase adapters, the build label generate reports by comparing one build label/IBM Rational ClearCase label to another.
Source Code Area
The Source Code Area is applicable for Subversion adapters and can consist of one of the following values:
Subversion adapter:
“Trunk” name.
“Branch” name from the list of branches.
“Tag” name from the list of tags.
Multiple values are not allowed. All values are case-sensitive.
Build Version
The numerical build version values for the software build.
Build Description
A description of the software build.
Build Status
Provides information on the availability of the build.
Click the Keep checked out after checkin check box to keep the software build checked out after it is created.
After you have set the attributes, perform one of the following actions:
Click Cancel to remove your input and exit without creating the software build.
Click Finish to complete the software build.
Click Next to continue to the Set Attachments step.
Step 2—Set Attachments
Use the Attachments table to attach content items meaningful only in the context of this software build. These attachments cannot be checked in or checked out on their own. For more information, access Help from the Attachments table.
Click Finish to create the software build.
A confirmation message appears after a successful software build. The software build object is then available in the Folder Contents table of the folder.
