Viewing and Editing Quantities of Measure
The quantity of measure information page allows you to view and edit the quantity of measure. Access the information page for a quantity of measure by selecting the quantity of measure in the navigation pane, or by selecting
View Information from the right-click actions menu for the quantity of measure.
| When a new quantity of measure is created, and OK clicked from the New Quantity of Measure window, the information page for the quantity of measure is automatically displayed in edit mode. Clicking Cancel to exit edit mode does not delete the newly created quantity of measure. |
The following properties display for a quantity of measure:
• Name—The name of the quantity of measure. The quantity of measure name cannot be edited.
• Description—An optional description of the quantity of measure, containing up to 200 characters.
• Display Units—The list of
display units and current default values for the quantity of measure, for each measurement system.
You can optionally override the
Default for each measurement system by entering a
supported units string into the
Override field. See the edit procedure below for more information on using the
Override field.

The unit you entered is converted to the equivalent Default value based on each measurement system. If you want to use a different display unit, use the Override field. |
From the quantity of measure information page, you can override the display units used by a measurement system or change the description of a quantity of measure.
Use the following procedure to edit a quantity of measure:
1. Select
Edit from the
Actions menu on the quantity of measure information page, or from the right-click actions menu for the quantity of measure in the navigation pane. For more information, see
View and Edit Modes.
2. In the Description field, type up to 200 characters to describe the quantity of measure.
For example, if the new quantity of measure expresses a force, you might want to override the default unit of g*cm /s**2 to display the quantity using Newtons (N) instead.
When you override the Default column in the Display Units table on a quantity of measure information page, the new default setting carries through to both the Manage Reusable Attributes window and the Manage Types window.
The Override value can contain no more than 50 characters.
4. Click Save or Done to save your changes.

5. Click Save or Done to save your changes. The system verifies all overridden display unit default values entered to ensure that they are syntactically valid and compatible with the default unit. If any entries are invalid, revise them and save your changes, or click Cancel to discard the changes.
