Manufacturing Process Management Flow
You can break the MPM flow into five steps:
1. Define manufacturing strategy
a. Evaluate design and program requirements
b. Evaluate manufacturing capability and capacity
c. Select manufacturing partner
d. Identify manufacturing risk
2. Plan manufacturing activities
a. Transform an eBOM into an mBOM
b. Create process plans
c. Initiate tooling and factory equipment requests
d. Produce time, cost, material estimates, and feedback to design
3. Optimize the process plan
a. Analyze process alternatives
b. Balance activities across work cells and lines
c. Simulate work cells and perform ergonomic studies
d. Initiate any design change requests
4. Finalize and document the process plan
a. Finalize NC tool path and CMM programs
b. Ensure the process plan definition is complete
c. Generate graphical work instructions dynamically
5. Preproduction and production
a. Release parts, mBOMs, and routings to production systems
b. Deliver printed or electronic work instructions to shop floor
c. Collect operator feedback, as-built information, and quality information
d. Monitor quality, evaluate deviations, and issue change requests
