Resolving Potentially Modified Files
You can resolve potentially modified files in one of the following ways:
Select a potentially modified file in the Sandbox view and then select Member > Views > View Differences on the toolbar.
Select a potentially modified file, right-click, and select View Differences.
Use a third-party tool to view the differences in the working files.
By selecting the Automatically Resolve Potentially Modified Working Files option in the Sandbox Information dialog box. For more information, see Viewing Sandbox Details.
*
Based on the resolution, the status of the working file is updated in the sandbox view. If the file has modifications, the potentiality modified icon in the corresponding delta column changes to . If there are no modification to the file, the potentially modified icons in the corresponding columns are cleared.
Key Considerations
If a sandbox contains a large number of potentially modified files, consider the following when resolving such files:
When you resolve the files using the Automatically Resolve Potentially Modified Working Files option, the background operation updates the status icon for all these files in the Sandbox, leading to a momentary flicker in the view.
Till all the files are resolved the overall performance of the PTC RV&S Client, Server or the FSA server may get adversely impacted.
When you resolve potentially modified files using the View Differences option, PTC RV&S calculates the differences in the working file based on the internal differencing algorithm and not on the output shown in the Visual Differences dialog box. You can configure third-party visual differencing tools in the client for state resolution. In rare cases, the results of state resolution provided by such tools can contradict the state resolution results provided by PTC RV&S. In such cases, subsequent operations like Resynchronize, Revert Members, Check In, and Check Out rely on the state resolution done by PTC RV&S and not on the differences shown in the third-party tool.
In PTC RV&S Client GUI, the state resolution is applied on sandboxes and working files visible in the sandbox view. If the sub-sandboxes are in a collapsed state, the working files in such sandbox are not selected for state resolution. The working files in such sandboxes are resolved only when the sandboxes are expanded, and the working files are populated in the sandbox view.
The following operations on the potentially modified working files are disabled:
