To search for potential duplicates when creating a new item
1. When creating a new item, PTC RV&S automatically searches for potential duplicates after you enter text in the defined search field. If duplicates are found, you are prompted to click the Potential duplicates found link.
2. Click the Potential duplicates found link. The Potential Duplicates View displays the duplicate items.
In the upper pane, the list includes the following columns: Order, ID, Project, State, and the defined search field (for example, Summary). Columns are not configurable in the Potential Duplicates View.
*
If your administrator has made it mandatory to check for duplicates when creating a new item, you must review the list of duplicates before you can save the new item. If you try to save your new item without first viewing the list, a message displays.
3. Review the duplicate items shown in the list to determine if there is a duplicate for the item you are creating. To view the item’s details in the lower pane, click that item in the list.
*
You can further refine your search by entering additional text in the Duplicates Search field.
4. If you find a duplicate, you can edit the existing item to add relevant notes, and then cancel the create operation for your new item.
If you do not find a true duplicate in the list, you can close the Potential Duplicates View and return to your new item to complete it.
