Before You Start the PTC RV&S Client
Before you start the PTC RV&S client, ensure you have the following:
The name and port number of the PTC RV&S server you want to connect to
A copy of the PTC RV&S client installed locally on your computer
Your user name and password
*
Your administrator provides you with a server name, port number, user name, and password.
Write permissions for the PTC RV&S client installed at C:\Program Files\PTC\RVSClient<version>, which is the default client installation location.
If users do not have write permissions for the default installation location, then the client attempts to check the HOME, USERPROFILE and TEMP directories respectively for creating and writing the IntegrityClient.log file. However, if none of these locations have the write permissions, then the client fails to launch for such users.
*
In case the IntegrityClient.log files are getting created at the non-default location, then the client-side support package will not be able to capture such log files.
Key Considerations
You do not need to install the PTC RV&S client to access the PTC RV&S Web interface.
Before starting, ensure you have the following (if not, contact your administrator):
PTC RV&S client installed locally on your computer so you can access PTC RV&S in the graphical user interface
A supported Web browser, to use the PTC RV&S Web interface
*
For the most current browser support information, see the PTC Release Advisor.
the name of the PTC RV&S server host name and port number you want to connect to
your PTC RV&S user name and password
login permission assigned to you
If you are using the GUI and there are no ViewSets open from the previous PTC RV&S session or this is your first time starting the PTC RV&S client GUI, you are prompted to import a ViewSet.
A sub directory ptc-integrity-source that has source related temporary files is created inside a temporary directory (identified by system property java.io.tmpdir). When the client crashes, the contents of the ptc-integrity-source directory are retained. When the Client restarts, the ptc-integrity-source directory is renamed to ptc-integrity-source-deleted.<random_identifier> and deleted.
*
The source related temporary files that are not cleaned up by the older client (10.9 and earlier) are available in the temporary directory and should be cleaned up manually.
