Viewing and Editing Document and Content Items
You can display detailed item information for the item selected in the Outline or Content pane. You can display either the Item Details view or the Edit Item Details view as a docked part of the Document view.
To display item detail information as a docked part of the document, select View > Options > General. Then, under Item Preview, select View Only.
To display editable item detail information as a docked part of the Document view, select View > Options > General. Then, under Item Preview, select Editable.
When you edit items in the Edit Item Details view, you can make changes to all editable fields. Additionally, you can correct errors in fields that do not display in the Content pane. If the Edit Item Details view is not shown, it automatically displays when you need to resolve any of the following:
Mandatory fields in the Item Details view
Field relationships (constraints)
Event triggers
Field edit conflicts
Changes to content are reflected in the Item Details view. Changes made in the Edit Item Details view are reflected in the Content pane for fields that display as columns. When the item is modified in either pane, the view title bar shows the changed symbol (*).
*
Use either the Edit Item Details view or the Content pane to make edits to the document or content items. Avoid using the Edit Item Details view and the Content pane together to make the edits.
Additionally, the document edit icon displays beside the list item and at the top of the detail pane until changes are saved.
*
During single-row editing in the Document view, you can select and edit only one row at a time. If you select multiple rows in this mode, you cannot edit any of them. However, you can perform inline edits in the embedded Item Edit Details view. You can switch the edit mode if you want to edit multiple rows before saving changes. For more information, see Using Multiple-Row Editing.
