What is a Cross-cutting Perspective?
A cross-cutting perspective is a collection of contents from one or more documents presented in a single view. Such content can be associated with the various configurations such as AsOf Date. When you create a cross-cutting perspective, you can share it with other users associated with the requirements domain subject to permissions. You can then view, or modify the cross-cutting perspective.
For example, if you are working on a project for a car dashboard design, you may want to view group steering assembly, instrument cluster, entertainment system content and the dashboard console itself in a single cross-cutting perspective. Such a cross-cutting perspective also enables other users to obtain a high-level perspective of the design requirements. Additionally, as a project lead, you can create a cross-cutting perspective based on Systems such as Exhaust Emission; whose contents are collected from different documents.
Need for Cross-cutting Perspectives
You are probably familiar with the challenges of gathering and analyzing project-related information from diverse sources. For example, to create a CAD design, design engineers require information related to the project or a system from various types of documents such as Input, Requirements, Specifications, Test Suite, and so on. Some of these challenges related to content that cuts across different types of documents are as follows:
• The need to switch between documents frequently, and the use of filters with various criteria to locate the required content.
• Having to open multiple documents simultaneously to get a complete picture of the requirements for a project.
• Keeping large documents open simultaneously to view related information.
• Limited capability to share specific content with other users within the system.
The cross-cutting perspective feature is introduced to overcome the above-mentioned challenges and more, while also providing new opportunities to improve communication, quality, and productivity.
