Configuring Localization
Localization allows an administrator the freedom to localize or add translations to the administrative object attributes: display name and description for Fields, Test Result Fields, Types, and States. Administrators and end users can connect to the Windchill RV&S server using one of the supported locales. This section describes the configuration settings that are required for localization.
Setting the Localization Property
As an administrator, you can set the mksis.im.adminObjectConfigurationLocales property for administrative object localization in the following locales:
English (en)
Japanese (ja)
German (de)
Chinese Simplified (zh_CN)
Korean (ko)
French (fr)
If the locale is set in the localization property, the display name and description of the administrative objects for Fields, Test Result Fields, Types, and States can be viewed in the specified locale. If the property is not set, there is no visible impact to the users and they continue to view the display name and description as created in the server locale.
For example, if Windchill RV&S supports five locales, and only two are set for the value of the property, the server provides translations only for two locales even if translations are available for all the locales.

After the locale code is set in the property, it is assumed that the translations for the administrative object attributes display name and description are available. Otherwise, the translations for the administrative objects must be obtained. If translations are not available, the users see the translation strings as set in the server locale.
Understanding the Windchill RV&S server Locale
It is important to understand the server locale and the role it plays in localization. When an administrator is installing the server, the locale chosen during the installation is used to configure the standard set of administrative objects if any, and is referred to as installer locale. The names of the administrative objects use the server locale. However, the translations for the display name and description can be in any of the PTC-supported locales.
For example, if an administrator installs a server using English as the installer locale on a German operating system, the configuration has the names of the administrative objects in English. However, the display name and description can be in any of the PTC-supported locales.
During an upgrade of an existing server, the display name and description of the administrative objects (both the standard set of objects and custom-created objects) are stored in the server locale. For the standard set of administrative objects, translations for the PTC-supported locales are added, except the server locale. The locale cannot be changed during an upgrade.
For example, if an administrator installs an Integrity 10.7 server or earlier, using English as the installer locale, then during an upgrade to Integrity 10.8 and later, the display name and description attributes of the administrative objects Fields, Test Result Fields, Types, and States are stored in the English locale.
