Editing Content in Microsoft Word
Windchill RV&S provides you with the ability to edit your document (and/or its content) in the Microsoft Word editor already installed on your system. For supported Microsoft Word versions, see Windchill RV&S Product Integrations.
If you have 64-bit Microsoft Word installed on your system and are using the 64-bit Windchill RV&S client, you can import large Microsoft Word documents on a system that has enough system memory. Importing such large documents in Windchill RV&S provides you the ability to edit content for 10,000 nodes after the import operation. The Windchill RV&S 64-bit client can import a large Microsoft Word 64-bit document with the following optimal attributes:
Size: 9 MB
Pages: 3,000
Nodes: 10,000
Images: 450 (size between 27 KB to 35 KB)
Tables: 3,400
Words: 552,468
These attributes are listed as a guidance for importing a large Microsoft Word 64-bit document. The import operation depends on various system resources available such as installed RAM, disk space available, and the heap size allocated for JVM that is used by the Gateway application.
*
To import large Microsoft Word documents, it is recommended to increase the heap size for Gateway using the lax.nl.java.option.additional property in the installdir\WindchillRVSClient13\bin\Gateway.lax file, where installdir is the location of the Windchill RV&S client installation.
Document and content is edited in a Word editor that is opened inside the Windchill RV&S client, giving you access to Microsoft Word functionality while still using the Windchill RV&S client. When you are finished using the editor, items are saved back to Windchill RV&S for you.
*
Windchill RV&S supports enhanced rich text content that you can use in Microsoft Word. You can also use the enhanced rich text features after publishing the content of MS Word to a Windchill RV&S document. For more information, see “Working With Rich Content” and “Using the Word Editor”.
For information on requirements and caveats for this functionality, see “Word Editor Prerequisites”.
