Configuration Management Interfaces
Configuration management functionality is accessible in three interfaces: Windchill RV&S client, Configuration Management Web interface, and command line interface (CLI).
The Windchill RV&S client uses the concept of a Tabbed View Interface (or TVI). A TVI is a visual arrangement of multiple views in a single window. For more information on using and customizing this interface, see the user documentation. All configuration management commands are available in the GUI.

In the help, all GUI procedures are documented using menu-based commands; however, toolbar buttons, shortcut menus, and shortcut keys exist for most procedures. For more information, refer to descriptive tooltips and menu items in the GUI.
The Configuration Management Web interface allows you to perform key project management tasks. You do not need to install the Windchill RV&S client to access the Configuration Management Web interface. To open the Configuration Management Web interface, type the name and port number of the Windchill RV&S server in the location or address field of your Web browser, for example, xyzBusiness.com:9001. From the Windchill RV&S server home page, click the link for Start Windchill RV&SWeb Interface.
The CLI allows you to enter commands in a text-based interface. Primary use of the CLI is for scripting. It is also useful for environments where there is no GUI. The CLI can be used to manage your configuration management projects, Sandboxes, and members, and to configure configuration management functionality. To access the command line interface from a computer running Windows, from the Start menu select the MS-DOS or Command Prompt (depending on the version of Windows).
You can also choose to work alternately between the GUI and the CLI, because all configuration management commands are available in these two interfaces. For example, you can perform a command in the CLI and view the results in the GUI.
