To assess your workflow and project state transitions, consider the following questions
1. What project states (or stages) are followed from the inception of a project to its completion?
◦ conceptualization
◦ design
◦ development
◦ review
◦ testing
◦ production
2. Are approvals considered as separate stages or are they a prerequisite for moving to the next stage?
Define a sequential state model for your projects.
3. Does the workflow follow in sequence from one state to the next, or are there provisions for repeating certain steps?
Consider the state transitions in your workflow.
4. Is the workflow the same for each type of project?
◦ one workflow is used
◦ one workflow is used for each item type
◦ workflow depends on the urgency of the work
In Windchill RV&S, you may define a workflow for each item type.
