To create a test result field in the GUI
CLI EQUIVALENT
im createfield --testResult
1. From the Workflow and Documents node view, right-click Test Result Fields and choose Create. The Create Field dialog box displays.
2. In the Name field, type a new name for the test result field. This is the name you use to refer to the field in Windchill RV&S. The Name field allows 100 alphanumeric characters.
In the Display Name field, Windchill RV&S automatically enters the same selected name. Display names are the field titles that users see when working with Windchill RV&S.
You can choose a different name to use as the display name. Display names are useful for clarifying the terminology presented to users on the interface.
3. On the Values panel, from the Data Type list select a data type for the field. When you select a data type, the values the field can accept display in the list.
You can create the following types of test result fields:
Field Type
Examples/Description
Integer
Throughput (kbps), which measures the amount of data transferred during the test; or Battery Life (%), which measures the state of the battery in a device being tested.
Pick
Usability Rating. Example pick values: Very Usable, Somewhat Usable, Difficult to Use. This field could be a pick value used for assigning a rating to certain types of tests such as User Interface testing.
Floating Point
Execution Time (hours). Execution time (hours) can be used to capture the amount of time it takes to execute a particular test with floating point precision.
Date
This field may be used to identify when the test was ran as opposed to the time the test result was modified. It is particularly useful when doing offline testing where results are entered into the system many hours after the tests were actually executed.
Short Text
GPS Co-ordinates. Shorttext fields can be useful for capturing free form text to help identify specific configuration information about the test result, for example, the GPS co-ordinates used when testing location-based devices.
4. Edit the field information as needed:
To type a more detailed textual description of the field, such as the field’s purpose or what distinguishes this field from others, click the Description tab.
To customize the order the fields display in, click the Position tab to display the Position panel, and use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to change the order in the list. This order is used throughout Windchill RV&S.
5. When you are finished setting the field’s properties, click OK.
