Rolling Back Server-side Service Packs
The PatchServer -rollback command allows you to undo changes that have been applied by a service pack to the Windchill RV&S server. The -rollback option works for the Windchill RV&S server and Windchill RV&S Agent on supported 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.
*
If a service pack was installed and it included the removal of previously-released HotFixes, rolling back that service pack effectively restores those HotFixes on the server and/or client.
For information on rolling back a service pack applied to Windchill RV&S client, see “Rolling Back Client-side HotFix”.
The following are key considerations when performing a service pack rollback:
You can only roll back the most recently applied service pack using this documentation.
Contact Customer Support regarding any problem that leads to a rollback decision.
If a service pack installation fails, do not attempt to roll back. Contact PTC Technical Support for assistance.
In rare cases, a service pack may include database schema changes that cannot be rolled back using the PatchServer -rollback command. In such cases, you must also restore the database. It is important that you create a backup of your existing database before beginning any service pack installation.
*
If you made changes to the data in your database after the service pack was applied, contact PTC Technical Support for information before attempting any rollback.
The rollback restores Windchill RV&S server settings to the state they were in at the time the service pack was applied. This means that properties and policies are rolled back, causing line changes to be lost; however, changes from lines added or deleted by you (the Administrator) are retained.
Use the XMLParserClient.log to obtain the values for properties and policies for lines that have changed and then manually make the changes after the service pack rollback. For more information, see “Client Service Pack Logging”.
If you have applied a HotFix to a Windchill RV&S server that has a service pack installed, do not attempt to rollback the service pack. The service pack rollback takes into account HotFixes released prior to it, but does not take into account HotFixes that are subsequently released. Contact PTC Technical Support for assistance.
If a service pack to be rolled back is the minimum required for Windchill RV&S clients connecting to the Windchill RV&S server, you must change the minimum to a previous service pack level or remove the restriction; otherwise clients that roll back are unable to connect to the Windchill RV&S server. For more information on the properties specifying the minimum service pack level required for the Windchill RV&S client, see “Service Pack Policies”.
*
If you are rolling back multiple Windchill RV&S servers, set the minimum and maximum service packs required to match the new values set for the server you are first rolling back.
