Applying and Distributing HotFixes
All HotFixes, whether they are server-side or client-side, are initially installed on the Windchill RV&S server.
Server-side HotFixes are installed using the PatchServer utility to extract and install the updates. Information on the server-side HotFix installation procedure is included with the readme file for each HotFix.
The server’s patch distribution utility handles the distribution of client-side HotFixes from a central location on the Windchill RV&S server to all connecting clients. HotFix distribution requires minimal input from users working with the Windchill RV&S clients.
For client-side HotFixes, the PatchServer utility extracts the updates and places them on the Windchill RV&S server. The server’s patch distribution utility then automatically distributes the updates to connecting clients. If a HotFix is available, the connecting client is prompted to download the update and the HotFix is installed upon restarting the client.
As of Integrity Lifecycle Manager 12.0, it is not mandatory for a user to have system administrator privileges to update the Windchill RV&S client with an available HotFix. To install a HotFix, you must have Full Control permissions for the client installation folder.

The patch distribution utility supports all generally available HotFixes for each service pack version. The patch distribution utility does not support custom or untested fixes that are manually installed.
Information on installed HotFixes is also recorded when collecting support packages for the Windchill RV&S server or clients.
