To create a state in the GUI
CLI EQUIVALENT
im createstate
1. From the States view, select State > Create. The Create State dialog box displays.
2. In the Name field, type a name for the state. This is the name the state is referred to in Windchill RV&S.
3. Under the Description tab, type a more detailed textual description of the state, such as the state’s meaning in your workflow. To do this, click the Description tab.
4. Under the Position tab, specify where the new state displays in the State list within an item. Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to change the position of the new state.
5. Under the Image tab, associate a custom icon image with the state. To do this, select Use Custom Image, and click Select to browse for the image file. To have no image associated with the type, select No Image.
If you choose to use your own custom icon image, the image must be in GIF or JPEG format, and no larger than 24 by 16 pixels.
6. Under the Capabilities tab, define state-based capabilities. In Windchill RV&S, state based capabilities allow change packages that are under review or change packages that are open to exist while an item is in a given state. See the user change package review and approval process documentation for details.
If the item state does not allow open change packages, Windchill RV&S prompts users to close the item’s change package before they move any item to that state. In addition, if an item state does not allow open change packages, users cannot create new change packages for any items in that state.
To define a state-based capability, do one of the following:
To display only enabled state-based capabilities, from the Filter list select <Selected>.
To display all available state-based capabilities, from the Filter list select <All>.
To display only the state-based capabilities related to workflows and documents, select Windchill RV&S. Then to allow time entries in the selected state, enable the Allows time entry in this state option. See time entries documentation for more information about managing time entries.
To display only the state-based capabilities related to configuration management, select MKS Source. Then select one or more of the following capabilities:
To allow change packages under review in the selected state, enable the Allows SI change packages under review to exist in this state option.
To allow open change packages in the selected state, enable the Allows open SI change packages to exist option.
To display only the state-based capabilities related to test management, select Integrity Test. To allow test results to be created and modified when a test session item is in the selected state, enable Allow test results to be created and modified in this state. See the test results documentation for details about test results.

If you are using the Implementer integration with Windchill RV&S, additional state-based capabilities are available. For more information, see your Implementer Installation and Administration Guide.
7. When you are finished setting the properties, click OK.
