To set general preferences in the GUI

To access the general preferences, select File > Preferences. Then, in the Preferences Configuration window, select Windchill RV&S Client > General.

• Look and Feel (Windows only)—The color scheme of the GUI. You must restart the Windchill RV&S client for this change to take effect.

• Popup Delay (ms)—The time in milliseconds before the status of a command appears. The default value is 2500 for the GUI and 0 for the CLI.

• Max Messages Displayed—The maximum messages to be displayed in the Windchill RV&S Client Status Details window. The default value is 4000. You can set this preference to any value between 0 and 100000.

• Exit On Close—Determines whether the Windchill RV&S client is completely shut down when the using Close Window command or the close icon in the upper-right corner of the window. When not enabled, the Windchill RV&S client window closes, but the Windchill RV&S client continues to run in the background. By default, this option is not enabled.

• Enable System Tray Icon (Windows only)—When selected, a Windchill RV&S client icon appears in the Windows notification area (also known as the system tray). You can perform some basic commands by right-clicking this icon. This option is enabled by default.

• This Windchill RV&S client will respond to Windchill RV&S URL links. (Windows only)—When selected, this Windchill RV&S client is used to open Windchill RV&S client URL links. For detailed information on the Windchill RV&S client views that you can open from within email notifications and other supported options, see Windchill RV&S Client URL Links.

If multiple Windchill RV&S client installations are present on a single machine, by default, this option is enabled by default on the last installation only.

When Windchill RV&S client URL links are enabled on another Windchill RV&S client, a note displays the full path of that Windchill RV&S client installation. If you select this option for the current client, the option is automatically disabled on the other Windchill RV&S client installation.

• Maximum heap size—The maximum amount of memory reserved for the Windchill RV&S client. The default value is 1024. The minimum value is 5, and the maximum value depends on your available system memory.

Changing the heap size setting may unfavorably affect the performance of the Windchill RV&S client and your system. Consult your administrator before making changes.

There are additional settings under Windchill RV&S Client > Commands that you may want to modify:

• Under Disconnect From Server, the Confirm Disconnect preference determines whether you are asked for confirmation when disconnecting from the server.

• Under Exit, the Shutdown all Windchill RV&S Clients preference determines whether all clients are shut down when you exit the Windchill RV&S client.
