Associating Product Hierarchy to a Service Structure
After setting up a service product hierarchy, you can associate service structure to it by assigning the product hierarchy or a product hierarchy node as a Service Effectivity context on the service structure. The Manage Applicability dialog box has a Service Effectivity type of applicability, where you define the relationship by choosing product hierarchies and product hierarchy nodes for the service structure.
You can create an association between a service structure and its related product hierarchies. Use the Add Product Hierarchy Association or Add Service Effectivity action available in the Manage Applicability dialog box.
The associations created using the action display information related to service product hierarchy in the Service Effectivity table. This is an optionally enabled feature.
To associate a product hierarchy structure or node to a service structure root using the action, perform the following steps:
1. Click the root level of a service structure and navigate to the Manage Applicability dialog box.
2. Click in the Service Effectivitysection. The Add Product Hierarchy Associationdialog box appears.
3. In the Context field, enter the name or number of product hierarchy.
Alternatively, you can search for a product hierarchy. Specify the search criteria for the context value based on the object type and the name or number of a product hierarchy. The search returns a list of product hierarchy types and all its defined subtypes.
4. Click OK or Apply to apply the effectivity context. The Effectivity Type in the Service Effectivity table is displayed as Product Hierarchy.
You can use the Edit option to apply a different product hierarchy context to the association.
*
You can create only a single association at a time.
If you have not updated or upgraded to 11.1 M020 Windchill server, you can use the Add Service Effectivity action to create an association. Perform the following steps to associate a product hierarchy structure or node to the root of a service structure using the Add Service Effectivity action:
1. Click the root level of a service structure and navigate to the Manage Applicability dialog box.
2. Click in the Service Effectivity section. The Add Service Effectivitydialog box appears.
3. Select the required Type from the list.
4. In the Context field, enter the name or number of product hierarchy.
Alternatively, you can search for a product hierarchy. Specify the search criteria for the context value based on the object type and the name or number of a product hierarchy. The search returns a list of object types including product hierarchy types and all its defined subtypes.
5. Set the Date, Serial Number or Serial Number and Date fields to apply effectivity context to the selected context.
6. Click OK or Apply to apply the effectivity context. The Effectivity Type in the Service Effectivity table is displayed as Date, Serial Number or Serial Number and Date.
*
This type of Service Effectivity should not be confused with the Service Effectivity that can be defined in a Filter.
When generating a publication structure from an information structure, the Service Effectivity link to the product hierarchy is preserved in the new publication structure.
*
When you use the action to create new associations, the effectivity type for legacy product hierarchy associations is displayed as Product Hierarchy. The effectivity type remains unchanged for the associations that use the Date, Serial Number or Serial Number and Date effectivity. In this case, you can edit the associations to change the effectivity type to Product Hierarchy. Use Edit to clear the values of the selected type in the Edit Service Effectivity dialog box. The product hierarchy context, without any type value, displays the effectivity type as Product Hierarchy.
By default, the list of all Part (WTPart) subtypes are presented to the user. You can control the list of subtypes by specifying the Service Effectivity contexts in the configuration file. The context configuration applies to the Service Effectivity section of the Manage Applicability window and the Service Effectivity tab of the Edit Filter window. Be sure to read Customizing Service Effectivity for information on how to deploy service effectivity context configuration for your site using this file:
codebase/com/ptc/arbortext/windchill/serviceEffectivityFilter
/server/serviceEffectivityConfig.xml
Setting Up a Directory Structure for Managing Customized Files and Text Tailoring provides more implementation information.
Specify the type definition that is used in sis.properties.xconf in your entry. The context entry takes the form:
<ServiceEffectivityContextTypes>
<Type>wt.part.WTPart|org.divname.ServiceEffectivityContext
</Type>
</ServiceEffectivityContextTypes>
