Insert an Illustration
You can either insert an existing Information Control Number (ICN) illustration into a data module, or create a new one and add it.
Insert an Existing Illustration
1. Position the cursor in a valid location in the data module where you want to add the illustration.
2. Insert a figure element, using Windchill Arbortext Editor’s Insert Markup feature.
The Browse Graphic Entities dialog box displays.
3. If required, select the type of ICN (Model Identification Code-based or CAGE Code-based) from the Windchill Type drop down list.
4. Select the required type of illustration from the Type drop down list.
5. Enter search criteria to assist you in locating your illustration.
*
Wildcards can be used. If you enter no search criteria, all ICNs on the system are returned as results.
6. Click Search.
The list is populated with all ICNs that match the search criteria.
Graphic types .c3di and .iso, which are not supported by the S1000D Specification, can be returned as results.
Requirements for displaying these graphic types:
A graphic fallback is setup for Windchill Arbortext Editor, listing both the primary content file extension (for example c3di) and a valid secondary content extension (for example .pvz)
For more information, see Set up Fallback Mechanism for Secondary Content of an Illustration
The notation type of the secondary content file is defined as Graphic/Multimedia in the Notations group of the S1000D look up library
7. If you want to see a thumbnail representation of an illustration, select the ICN in the results list and click Preview.
Choose Hide Preview to remove the thumbnail from the dialog box.
8. Select the required ICN in the results list and click OK.
The Browse Graphic Entities dialog box is closed and the Modify Attributes dialog is displayed.
9. Make changes to the illustration’s attribute values as required.
*
The reproductionHeight and reproductionWidth attributes are populated with default values if you created your ICN from an illustration template. You can change these values if required.
10. Click OK
The ICN is inserted in the data module.
If you have set up secondary content for a Creo Illustrate (.c3di) or Windchill Arbortext IsoDraw (.iso) graphic, it is displayed.
For more information, see Include Secondary Content Attachment with an Illustration.
To display secondary content (.pvz or .cgm) of an illustration, PTC recommends the best practice of setting up a Windchill Arbortext Editor fallback mechanism. If it is set up correctly, secondary content is displayed and the graphic reference includes an xlink:href attribute that references the primary content file.
For more information, see Set up Fallback Mechanism for Secondary Content of an Illustration.
Create a New Illustration
You can use the Create ICN dialog box to create and configure a new ICN before inserting it into a data module. There are two options in Windchill Arbortext Editor for accessing the dialog box:
S1000D > Create ICN menu option
Create ICN option in the Browse Graphic Entities dialog box when searching for an illustration to insert into content
With this option, you can create a new ICN from source on your desktop or use an illustration template. The illustration is saved back to the Windchill repository and can be managed from there. You can then use the Insert an Existing Illustration process to add the new ICN to your data module.
If you use an illustration template, you can define primary and secondary content for your graphic. This enables you to keep the CAD source of the illustration and its final representation together. Templates that support Creo Illustrate (.c3di) and Windchill Arbortext IsoDraw (.iso) source are provided.
To create a new illustration:
Access the Create ICN dialog box from Windchill Arbortext Editor, or from the Browse Graphic Entities dialog box when working in a data module.
For more information, see Create ICN Dialog Box
If required, select the type of ICN (Model Identification Code-based or CAGE Code-based) from the Windchill Type drop down list.
Select the Use Template option if you want to generate a blank ICN from a template.
The Windchill Service Information Manager - S1000D Module provides a set of templates that provide a defined size for the graphic type, a primary content file, a blank secondary content file (if applicable), and instructions to the illustrator.
*
Creo Illustrate and Windchill Arbortext IsoDraw templates include primary content and secondary content.
To support the use of secondary content inWindchill Arbortext Editor and in published content, you configure Windchill Arbortext Editor to use graphic fallback. For more information, see Set up Fallback Mechanism for Secondary Content of an Illustration.
Select a template from the Template list.
The Height and Width fields are populated from the template. You may be able to change these values, depending on the template you selected. For example, a Flexi Height template allows you to change the height value.
If you don’t want to use an illustration template, you can create the ICN from a graphic on your desktop. Choose Browse to search for the source graphic of your illustration.
Set the attribute values for the ICN in the Information Control Number tab.
Default values for the attributes have been set from the current product, or from the current data module’s SNS location.
Associate any files or additional information with the ICN in the Attachments tab.
Click Create.
The ICN is created and saved to the default content folder for the product in the Windchill repository.
You can now use the Insert an Existing Illustration process to add the ICN to a data module.
