Indexing XML Documents

XML files are indexed by default:

• XPath-enabled searches are not supported in Windchill.

• When invalid XML is present, Windchill cannot index the content of the XML document. In those situations, the XML document is only searchable by its Name and Number attributes.

• The wt.index.enableXMLTagSearch property determines how much data from an XML document is indexed. By default, Windchill only indexes the document content (values between XML tags). However, if you set this property to true, Windchill indexes all XML content, including tags. When enabled, users can perform specialized XML-scoped searches.

The following rules apply to XML-scoped searches:

◦ XML searches can only be performed in English. There is no language processing when performing XML-scoped indexing.

◦ If you enable XML tag searches, you must re-index previously indexed XML documents in order to include them in search results.

◦ A special query format is available to search XML strings. For more information, see XML Document Searches.

Default File Type Support

To view a complete list of file types indexed at your site, run the following command from a Windchill shell:

windchill wt.content.DataFormatUtil -list
