Show Similar Parts when Creating a New Classified Part
When creating a new classified part using a New Part window, if the classification attribute values of the classified part match with the attributes of one or more existing classified object values, the list of similar such parts is displayed in the Existing Similar Parts window. You can review the parts in the list and decide whether to continue with creating the new part or refer an existing part instead.
For example, a classified part ‘Bearing’ with 2 kg weight already exists. Using the New Part wizard, create a part classified as ‘Bearing’ with weight attribute set to 2 kg. Click Finish. The Existing Similar Parts window appears. It displays a list of existing and similar bearing parts with same weight. Click OK to continue with creating a new but duplicate part, or click Cancel.

Existing Similar Parts window does not appear when user is creating multiple parts using New Multiple Parts window.

The Existing Similar Parts window appears only when following conditions are met:
• The classification attributes values match with one or more existing classified object values when creating a new part.
• The Show similar parts when creating a new classified partpreference is set to Yes. The preference is available under Part Management in the Preference Management at site level.
• WindchillIndex Search server is installed and running.
• The Partslink index property com.ptc.windchill.partslink.index.enabled is set to true in wt.properties file.
