Automatic Revision During Promotion
Some companies use a gate review process when an object is moving into a production phase. A common practice is to change the revision scheme as part of this process. An object in a pre-production phase uses a numeric revision scheme and once in a production phase, the object uses an alpha revision scheme. A proper lifecycle design includes a gate state that can be modeled to achieve the desired target state. This automatically revises a promotion candidate to the initial revision for the new revision series.
Automatic revision states allow the automatic revisioning of promotion candidates based on a selected lifecycle states once the promotion request is approved. Companies can use the automatic revision mode to select a promotion process preference value. This enables a lifecycle transition that automatically revises an object once the promotion request is approved.
The following example shows how automatic revisioning works when promoting an object from Development to the Production Gate state when the preference is enabled:
